I know this won't have to happen to me for a while, but I just want to know how do you cope with something like this? And how do you let a new dog into your life?
You shouldn't be worrying about this right now. Just work on bonding with Anya. You've only had her for a week!:)
I think it depends on why you're retiring a dog. Retirement can happen for a variety of reasons. Illness, old age, or just a poor match to begin with. Each situation comes along with its own set of feelings. Some people take time off between dogs, and some go back to the school as soon as possible. Just as getting your first dog is an individual experience, so is retiring your first dog. People experience it differently.
Yeah I know I just wanted to know how some people delt with it. I love Anya to death! She means the world to me!
We can only deal with it when the time comes. There's no need to worry about that right now because as Tunedtochords has said, bonding with Anya is the thing you should be focused on at the moment, just as bonding with Steven is where the majority of my time is going now. Don't think about it at the present time.
